Black and white has been a big trend this season, and in my book, polka dots are always in season, so this look was a no brainer! It started with the cardigan, and then I remembered the sandals and the headband, which I haven’t worn since the 80s. The look is simple and easy to replicate with similar pieces. You could even substitute the cardigan for a blazer, which would look really cute with the shorts.

Renaissance Penmanship

Susana Fernandez | A Key to the Armoire

Susana Fernandez | A Key to the Armoire

Sometimes inspiration for an outfit comes from the strangest of places…Take, for example, this outfit. Florals and botanicals are very big this season, so I wanted to wear this skirt with its black ink drawings. Its penmanship quality made me think of the yellow blouse embroidered in Renaissance stitch. Both are in linen and period-wise, they went well together. If you notice carefully, the iris cutwork of the blouse is repeated in the iris drawing of the botanical. Serendipity, I think!

By the way, the value of the Renaissance stitch is that it should be dense and should not ever pucker, which is very hard to do in soft fabrics such as cotton voile and linen. You can learn more about it here
